Newly minted indie banner High Treason Prods. has launched production on drama-thriller “Hurt,” starring Melora Walters, William Mapother, Sofia Vassilieva, Johanna Braddy, Jackson Rathbone and Ava Gaudet.
The film, directed by Barbara Stepansky, is the first of three fully financed features to go under the banner headed by Eduardo Levy and James Martin, who met while attending AFI. Levy was director of credit trading and portfolio management with Credit Suisse First Boston in Brazil; Martin held several senior marketing positions at Astral Television Networks and film distributor TVA in Canada.
“Hurt” was co-written by Stepansky and Alison Lea Bingeman (“CSI: Miami”) based on a story by Martin and Levy. Stepansky is a Student Emmy winner for director and the recipient of the Franklin J. Schaffner AFI Fellow Award.
Set in Arizona, “Hurt” follows a family as they grapple with the untimely death of the father and are forced to abandon their privileged lifestyle. When they fulfill a promise by the father and take in a foster child, a series of tragic, inexplicable incidents befall them.
High Treason is also in pre-production on “Hysteria,” penned by Elizabeth Edwards and exploring the psyche of a new mother as she confronts the gnawing sense that her long-awaited newborn son is not her own; and on “White Knuckle Ride,” set on top of Mt. Haleakala and written by Katherine Ruppe, based on a story by Martin and Levy.
