It’s always nice to see stars give back. And before “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” is released on DVD at midnight on March 2, stars from the film surprised kids at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Friday.

Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, and Jackson Rathbone all popped in to surprise kids who just thought they were getting a special screening of the film. The “Twilight” stars passed out signed DVDs, posed for pictures, and spent time talking with many families inside the hospital.

“When we were filming [Breaking Dawn] we went and gave our time at the Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge and it feels good to be able to give back,” Facinelli told omg! during his visit. “I know a lot of these kids are going through a hard time and anything you can do to put a smile on their face or make their day better, gives them positive energy and keep fighting the good fight to get better.”

Facinelli lit up the room by telling a few jokes to the patients and explained what went into filming some of the difficult scenes like the big showdown at the end. (Did you know they had to film with cardboard werewolfs?)

A dozen children gathered around a TV at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles March 1, watching a Blu-ray Disc of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, a day before it’s released to the public.

Keaira Lomas-Lee, 13, was answering trivia questions about the “Twilight” franchise before the movie began, smiling wide after getting one of the questions right. Her smile got a lot bigger when “Twilight” star Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen) walked through the door.

“What are you guys watching?” he joked, as Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) and Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) followed him through the door.

“Can we just sit down and watch all the extras together? I haven’t seen them yet,” Facinelli said.

“Have you guys seen all the movies?” Reaser asked. Most had.

The stars spent a solid half hour signing DVDs, T-shirts and tote bags, before taking pictures with the kids. Facinelli walked the kids through some of the copious bonuses Summit and Lionsgate included on the DVD and Blu-ray. The four then visited sick children in their rooms.

“I was surprised when they came [in],” Lomas-Lee said, as she looked through the autographed goods she was given. Asked what she planned to do with her signed DVD, she replied: “I’m going to keep mine!”

After the premiere of the new movie from The Twilight Saga, vampires have dominated many conversations of young locals.

Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” was at the Four Seasons Hotel and Resort on Friday to discuss why the saga was such a phenomenon to begin with.

“I think what Stephenie Meyer was able to create was putting out that there is the duality that we experience in life, which is love and fear,” Rathbone said. “You have this character that falls in love with someone she should fear. I think that when love conquers fear, it is something that is so innate in our human sensibilities that we are immediately attracted to it.”

“There are a lot of love stories out there, but there is not that sense of having to conquer fear. To have the sensibility and connectivity that you can fall in love and be love for eternity is something I firmly believe in and that people look for in life. So to me, that’s what draws people to it.”

Rathbone could not reveal much about the highly anticipated battle scene, but he believes it is going to leave fans speechless.

“I love action sequences. It’s really fun getting to utilize that vampire strength and speed because we didn’t get to do it a lot,” he said. “In a lot of the ‘Twilight’ films, we didn’t get a chance to really dive into what makes a vampire movie so great. So it was amazing to get a chance to dive in there.”

Stephenie Meyer hardly is the first modern author to have a novel successfully transition to the big screen, but she’s certainly among the most notable.

The Twilight author, whose next adaptation, The Host, is due out in March, created a phenomenon with her first book series, selling about 1.6 million print and 778,000 e-book copies of The Twilight Saga in 2012 alone. The fifth and final film in the series, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, opened to a whopping $340.9 million globally this past weekend.

Meyer released her first non-Twilight novel, The Host, in 2008 and serves as a producer on the film adaptation directed by Andrew Niccol. Like Twilight, The Host is set in the realm of sci-fi centering on a young, female protagonist caught in the midst of a pseudo-love triangle. In the tale, the human race has been taken over by an alien species called Souls, which take over the mind and body of their human hosts. Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, a character who refuses to allow a Soul to fully control her thoughts.

“It’s the duality, I think,” says Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) of Meyer’s success. “Within The Host, she has this character that’s of two minds, and throughout the entire Twilight Saga, you’ve got a girl that’s in love with two guys. It’s interesting, that duality in human nature, light and dark, fear and love, love and hate. It’s something that we’re all faced with every day.”
