Quotes: Jasper Hale
Carlisle: Sorry, Jasper’s our newest vegetarian. It’s still a little difficult for him.
Jasper: Pleasure to meet you.
Alice: It’s okay Jasper, you won’t hurt her.
Victoria: I’m the one with the wicked curve ball.
Jasper Hale: Oh well I think we can handle that.
Jasper: What is it? What do you see?
Alice: The tracker. He just changed course.
Jasper: Where will it take him, Alice?
Alice: Mirrors. A room full of mirrors.
Bella: Edward said the visions weren’t always certain…
Jasper: She sees the course people are on while they’re on it. If they change their minds, the vision changes.
Quotes: Jackson
“We’ve a lot to do in this film and Jasper’s powers are one of those that you don’t really want to give up right on the onset. I think, hopefully, we get to do the second and third film and by the third film I think it’ll be very obvious. However I think we do a little subtleties here and there. I don’t know if you catch up on them but whenever Jasper meets Bella for the first time inside the Cullen house, there’s a little bit of a moment. It’s a slight, very subtle thing that Catherine [Hardwicke] worked on with all of us.”
“I did not. It was funny. I called my folks and told them I got this part in this movie, and they told my little sister and she flipped out. She’s 13 and she’s read all the books. Then, like, the next day all my cousins e-mailed me from Louisiana. I’m talking about my cousins who are in law school, who are also head-over-heels in love with these books. [Laughs.] So I started getting wind of it.”
“Well, most vampire movies are all about the gore and the action and the violence. This movie’s about the heart. It’s about what moves us as humans, and what is so moving to us that it is even encompassed beyond humanity. These are creatures — they’re not people, they’re not humans, they’re kind of the decrepit side of everything. They’re dead; there’s no oxygen. They can’t feel cold, they can’t feel anything, but they can feel emotions and what those emotions lead us to do. You can choose morality, or you can choose the life that nature has provided for you, which is death. It’s kind of a life-versus-death-story, but not so much in the realm of “you’re going to get killed or get to do some killing,” but whether you’re going to choose to love life and choose love.”
“He’s a vampire barely able to control himself, but he does it for love. Basically, his nobility and sense of honor. Plus, he’s from Texas.”
“What I really wanted to do was just show the angst and the anguish, in terms of the character. Jasper is the latest to come into this vampire family, and the latest to accept this way of life, of not eating humans. He’s finding his morality, within this family structure, and so it’s a little bit harder for him. So, I tried to focus on that, moreso than anything else, and keep it like it is in the book. The character is slowly developed. That’s what really drew me to the character, and that’s how I wanted to play him.”
“I’m always interested in characters that push me to extremes of my own personality, my own psyche. The rage element of suppressing all of your natural desires is what attracted me to Jasper. The thing about an iconic character is you have the responsibility to fulfill the shoes of the imagination. A lot of the work is already done. It’s from the mind of Stephenie Meyer and it’s all laid out there in the books.”
