Thanks so much to lovely June, she wrote up her experience and sent in her awesome photos from the Tattoo Rock Parlour show in Toronto. You can read what she wrote about the show below and check out her photos in the gallery. Thanks again, June!
The venue was smaller than I imagined it to be. This was my FIRST 100 Monkeys show. There were two bands (I forget their names now, partly because I went deaf, lol) that were before the guys. They played great. I decided to head to the restroom before the guys got on stage. When I headed down stairs, the guys were in a room near the bathrooms, they sounded like they were rehersing and tuning the guitars. I was told by the security guard to keep walking, like I was really going to just walk in there and chat the guys up 10 mintues before they were going to go on stage.
Anyways, finally 8:3 came around, it felt like it took forever. Ben J- walked righ past me towards the other side of the stage. (The inner fan girl in me was screaming telling me it was my chance to talk to him- then again he was going on stage. lol)
The guys played a great set. It included “Ugly Girl”, “Gus”, “Looker”, “The Monkey Song”, “Wings On Fire”, they did a few more songs and the improve song of the night was “Dental Floss” Which Jackson Sang. haha. I never thought a song called Dental Floss would sound so good. Throughout the show, the guys showed some signs of exhustion. Ben G- looked unbelievably tired, he tried to cover up but I caught h a few times with a look on his face “Give me my bed” I don’t blame any of them, they didn’t let it stop them, still played with a ton of energy and sounded great. The boys still had a few more mintues, since they started a few mintues late.. but were told to wrap it up. When the boys got off stage, they literally went back to the dressing room, I called to Jackson as he was walking towards me and he looked to me with a smirk and said “Howdy” before going downstairs. Well I followed, thinking maybe a meet and greet was going to happen.
Turns out, security was already down there, not allowing anyone into the room the guys were in. One of the security guards who was in the room with them, actually asked the guys if some of us could go in and say hi.. the guys said they were tired and weren’t sure. (According to the guard). Uncle Larry appeared and someone asked him about meeting them, he said he couldn’t speak for the band. After a few mintues the Guards of Tattoo Rock Parlour came down telling everyone to get out if they didnt have a wristband (It turned into 19+ after the event was over) and if they did have a wristband to hang out upstairs & what not. Soon as we were told to get out, the nice guard- showed me and another girl that the guys had left their room [I never saw the Bens or Jackson after that] and then I found myself going upstairs.
I saw uncle Larry dismantaling the set upstairs and asked him, he said he didn’t think so. Then.. I spoke to Jerad breifly. He said they weren’t doing a meet and greet because they were actually leaving as soon as they had taken down all their stuff, I asked him how he learned Sign language and gave him a blue monkey, which he seemed really excited about, it made me smile. Then.. I got told off by a security guard. didn’t even get to say anything else to him.. I either had to wait in a closed off area or leave the building. So Knowing the guys weren’t sticking around and the people I was with were under 19.. I left.. but I left with a good impression of 100 monkeys. They put on a great show.

Hey June, I think I saw Jerad with the blue monkey. I was standing at the back door and he came out with a blue monkey in his hand! I totally agree with you about them looking tired. I was standing in front onthe left side of the stage (left if you were looking at the stage) about 3 feet away and at one point I saw Ben G go down on his knee looking exhausted. I got a “howdy” from Jackson as well when he came out the back. I thought the show was fantastic. It was my first time seeing them as well but it definitely will NOT be my last!
