- 100 Monkeys > Shows > January 4, 2010 – Launch Pad

The lovely Jens has sent over her review/write-up of the show from last night. It’s definitely worth the read!

The guys were in Albuquerque last night at The Launchpad Night Club. The show was fantastic!!! Even my husband said they were good, and I had to drag him there kicking and screaming.

We arrived at Launchpad, and went upstairs to the balcony to enjoy the show. As I glance over to the stairs, I notice a guy that looks an awful lot like Ben J walking into a little room at the top of the stairs. (Probably because it was him, HA.) As I do a double take to make sure it is really him, Ben G. & Jackson come up the stairs. And then a few seconds later Jerad, and Uncle Larry show up, too. I thought this would be like any other show…you see the band perform and then go home, but they were right there among us…just as down to earth as could be.

Throughout the evening, my husband and I took turns going outside to smoke, so that we would not lose our seats. At one point I went outside, and Uncle Larry was standing there smoking his cigar. Then Marty came out (in full bananager gear) to get some bandanas out of the car. I said “Hey Marty,” and he politely smiled and said hello. As I was passing their little room at the top of the stairs, the door was open, and Jackson was putting a bandana over Marty’s face, and they were all laughing. He was right in the doorway, not even a full arm’s length away from me. I wanted to say hi, but they were filming what I am assuming was some BananaVision. I did not want to interrupt, so I returned to our spot. Once I got back, my hubby took his turn to go out, and he had a conversation with Uncle Larry, who was still standing outside smoking his cigar. Of course, my husband didn’t even know who he was at first. As if all these sightings were not enough to give a 100 Monkeys junkie a super high…I later went down to the bar, and Ben G was down there talking to some of the staff. We even witnessed Marty playing some pinball. And this was all before the show had even started.

We watched the opening act…Asper Kourt. Who were also a great band. We were very impressed. When they were done, my hubby went to the little boy’s room, and when he came out the entire band walked right passed him. Don’t ask me how my husband got so lucky.

They started the evening out with Orson Brawl, which was awesome. In fact, it was all awesome. They played all of my favorites…Ugly Girl, Reaper, Sleeping Giants, Junkie, Poison Oak, The Monkey Song, Keep Awake, No More Grocery Store, Wasteland Too, Looker, Thank You, 38 Special, Wings On Fire, a song called Prayer, and another song I didn’t know. Then of course, the improv song….Spandex Banana Hammocks.
They had a brief conversation with the audience about the difference between red chiles and green chiles.

Jackson and Ben G. made lots of little jokes with each other and the audience. They were all really great at keeping the fans involved. It was a terrific night. If I had realized everything would have been so close I would have taken a camera, and our camcorder. Excuse me while I kick myself!

Anyone that can make it to one of their shows….ITS A MUST!!!

I was just reading this and I was so happy to find good photos of this show. Because mine were from my phone haha. I loved it, and I loved Asper Kourt. I’m most likely going to see Asper Kourt again. I wanted to share my little bit of the show that I experienced. I was talking to Marty the manager while he was at the merch table, and I asked him for his yellow bandanna. But he denied, sadly. He gave me a sticker and a shirt though, which was nice. I would suggest to go see them too, because Spandex Banana Hammocks was hilarious and cool.
